I’m sorry, I just had to laugh at this link request email. If these emails work then I would assume a large proportion of the people agreeing to exchange links are themselves the type to send out tonnes of link exchange email – granted, probably not as creative but in essence the same thing. Yeesh, I’ve received these emails too, and they make me cringe. They seem to work, though. If you check backlinks to that coupon page, I bet you’ll find a lot of people linking to to it saying “thanks amy!”

I agree with James, it might be creative but it’s dishonest. I doubt there’s any 4th grader finance project involved. They get an ‘A’ for creativity, but the idea gets an ‘F’.

Kudos for the creative back stories, but they need to realise honesty is the best policy, although it’s hard to be honest if you’re trying to push a spammy site.
I just wrote a blog post about communication for link building, think Wendy/Nancy could do with a few pointers!

The strange thing is that the link they request doesn’t seem to be commercial page and quite a few other sites link to it. Also, mrsthomsonsclassroom.com is a fairly built out site. But note the similar signature (Wing A – Rm 322) and the quote from Jesse Jackson. That’s how I found your post.
