@Scott. I loled to be free on myself :D. As to the post it is really a very good thing to test onto to get such a huge links coming towards your site but links from the same IP address is really not worth it. I don't know how exactly it could be helpful but got to agree the number looks big. But one thing suppose if we can make around 5 posts that can get us a links more than 50k lets say. Later we use real SEO techniques and if we than hit the number 1 spot, the competitors who are analyzing our backlinks would really give up on ranking on our keyword just by seeing our backlinks :D.

And I hate being Swedish sometimes.

This shows the true power from networking. People will pass links Guest post and post in forums but to get true powerful inbound links you will need to work with other webmasters.

Hey David! That was very informative, and exactly the info I was after :-) haha. Wonder how come I'd never thought this out that way before since it really is so logical. Of course since those links don't stay put, I'm curious as to how much google takes them into consideration... obviously they are not permalinks and are changing on a daily/weekly basis with the top content. Still they are of course valuable none the less, and have the potential also for generating traffic.

By the way, you (or your connections) are always welcome to offer up a meaningful quality post at info carnivore. Especially if it has nothing to do with the neighbour's cat (since I'm allergic!).
